This has been one busy semester for me. I'm glad it's almost over!
My music theory skills have dramatically improved, and I can write multiple melodic dictations perfectly after hearing the piece four times. My rhythmic dications are not as good though, I suck at rhythm.
I think I'm good at dictating pitches because I'm a singer. Hearing different intervals and being able to sing it back perfectly was what I did best. Now I have to admit, I don't have perfect pitch (every musician wishes they have that...including me) I sing flat many times, but I always have a tendency to correct myself right away, and avoid making the same mistakes.
My piano skills are improving too. I can play up to four different pieces perfectly. These pieces are short and not that extravagent, but atleast I can successfully play them! I also included the dynamics in there too, which impressed my piano prefessor during my first proficiency exam. I'm surprised no one else in my piano class included the dynamics...
Sadly, I wasn't in choir this semester due to scheduling problems. Next semester will be my first time singing in the Monmouth University choir. I'm going to try to audition for the chamber choir as well. I need to get back into singing in a group again---it's been too long. (about four years)
I'm also looking into music internships this semester...wonder if there's anything available in NYC. Even working in a music store would make me happy...or a church choir. Gonna look into it more as time goes on. I'm confident that I'll find something along the way.
Also looking into the study abroad program at MU as well. I'd love to go to Florence and study Italian (possibly make it my minor) I wonder if they have any music classes in Italy...they should since Florence was the birth place for opera. To study opera in Florence would be AMAZING! But I can only dream for now..
For now, finals are coming up and I'm starting to study allll of the theory, history, numerous pieces, etc that my professors piled up the past couple of weeks.
Fuuuuun!!!!
